Listening Center

Synopsis

All students benefit from listening to audio books and being able to follow along in the book. This is especially important for my Title I and EL students whose exposure to books before coming to school is often very limited. Research shows that listening to audio books allows students repeat opportunities to hear their favorite stories; offers them the chance to hear a story with great fluidity and often with sound effects to keep their interest; and gives them a chance to have a multi-sensory experience with a story, gaining access to all learners. In addition, when students choose to listen to the same story over and over, the repeat exposure to that vocabulary increases the chances that they will use the new vocabulary correctly. The Listening Center will be used in my classroom every single day.
