About Coach Hathaway

The late Tom Hathaway ran 131 marathons, many half-marathons, and countless other races. At age 79, he was the oldest finisher at the inaugural Running South event. He accomplished the feat of running one marathon in each state, gaining him entry into the 50 States Marathon Club. He would often win his age group. Tom taught and coached cross-country and track in Perry Township Schools for 46 years, most of the time at Southport High School; taught track and field at IUPUI for 5 years; coached and taught at University of Indianapolis for more than 8 years and taught KLA mini and marathon classes for over 30 years.

Coach Hathaway passed away on April 22, 2012.  Read more about the impact he made on hundreds of runners and young people via this tribute in the Indianapolis Business Journal. Please visit the Coach Hathaway Memorial in Perry Stadium and the Wall of Fame Dedication in the sports atrium.
